Insulation grommets for flat receptacles

Insulation grommets are used to provide additional insulation for uninsulated flat receptacles. Insulation grommets for uninsulated flat receptacles

Insulation grommets add a protective plastic sleeve to uninsulated flat receptacles. They enclose the connection area of the plug connection and make it possible to insulate flat plug technology even when the flat receptacle itself does not have integrated insulation.

For a suitable combination, the terminal width of the flat receptacle and the cable diameter must be taken into account. The HILPRESS range includes insulation grommets for different dimensions and connection designs.

Different plastic insulating materials for different requirements

HILPRESS offers insulation grommets made from different plastic insulating materials. Their temperature resistance and available colours vary depending on the material and design.

PVC: temperature range from -25 °C to +75 °C; available in transparent, black, yellow and red
Polyethylene (PE): temperature range from -50 °C to +85 °C; classic versions available in natural colour
Polyamide 6.6 (PA 6.6): temperature range from -40 °C to +110 °C; classic versions available in natural colour
Polypropylene (PP): temperature range from -40 °C to +120 °C; available in transparent, black, yellow and red

This means that the insulating material can be selected not only according to the design of the plug connection but also according to the thermal requirements of the application.

Insulation grommets for lateral conductor connections

For flat receptacles with lateral conductor connections, HILPRESS offers special insulation grommets with and without a bridge. These designs are adapted to the lateral cable entry and provide suitable insulation for the connection area.

For versions without a bridge made from PVC, the temperature resistance is from -25 °C to +75 °C. These versions are available in transparent and black.

Additional insulation grommets without a bridge are available for installation after crimping. Depending on the version, different plastic insulating materials can be selected:

PE: temperature range from -50 °C to +85 °C
PA 6.6: temperature range from -40 °C to +110 °C
PP: temperature range from -25 °C to +90 °C

Insulation grommets for flat receptacles with a lateral conductor connection and a bridge are also installed after crimping. The same temperature ranges apply to these versions: PE from -50 °C to +85 °C, PA 6.6 from -40 °C to +110 °C and PP from -25 °C to +90 °C.

How to choose the right insulation grommet

To select a suitable insulation grommet, first determine the design and dimensions of the flat receptacle used. Important criteria include the terminal width, cable diameter and whether the conductor is connected straight or from the side.

For versions with a lateral conductor connection, you must also determine whether a design with or without a bridge is required.

The insulating material should then be selected according to the operating conditions. PE may be suitable for applications with lower temperatures, while PA 6.6, with a temperature resistance of up to +110 °C, is available for higher thermal requirements.

PP and PVC cover further temperature ranges and colour options. The technical product data should therefore always be considered as a whole. The design, dimensions, insulating material, temperature range and colour must match the intended application and the flat receptacle used.

Installing insulation grommets after crimping

Some insulation grommets for flat receptacles with lateral conductor connections are installed only after the flat receptacle has been crimped.

This allows the plug connection to be manufactured correctly first and then fitted with the intended insulation grommet.

When selecting a product, you should therefore consider not only the material and dimensions but also when the insulation grommet is installed and whether the respective design has a bridge.
