Flat Plugs

Discover our range of flat plugs designed for safe and durable electrical connections in your installations. All Hilpress products meet the highest industrial standards and are suitable for a wide variety of applications.

What are flat plugs?

Flat plugs are electrical connectors used to connect wires to matching flat receptacles. They consist of a flat brass contact that ensures a secure electrical connection through positive mechanical fit. Due to standardized dimensions, flat plugs are compatible across manufacturers.

How do flat plugs work?

Flat plugs are inserted into a corresponding flat receptacle and mechanically secured, creating a conductive and vibration-resistant connection that can be easily detached when required. This connection principle is used in automation, automotive engineering, and control cabinet applications.

Design

A flat plug consists of two main sections: the flat contact area for the connection and the cable termination section for conductor attachment. Depending on the version, options for crimping, soldering, or screwing are available.

Material

Hilpress flat plugs are manufactured from high-conductivity brass and additionally tin-plated to protect against corrosion. This material combination ensures consistent electrical conductivity even under demanding environmental conditions.

Standards

Many of our flat plugs comply with the relevant DIN standards. The specific DIN reference can be found on each product detail page.

Uninsulated flat plugs

Choose uninsulated flat plugs for applications where additional insulation is not required. They are ideal for protected or enclosed systems where insulation is already provided by design.

Technical specifications

  • Material: Brass (CuZn)
  • Surface: plain or tin-plated
  • Tab widths: 2.8 mm, 4.8 mm, 6.3 mm
  • Tab thicknesses: 0.5 mm or 0.8 mm
  • Connection technology: crimping, soldering, screwing

Insulated flat plugs

Use insulated flat plugs when additional protection against contact or moisture is required besides electrical conductivity. The insulation provides mechanical stability and reduces the risk of short circuits.

Insulation materials

  • PVC insulation: up to + 70 °C, suitable for standard applications
  • Polycarbonate insulation: up to + 105 °C, halogen-free and impact-resistant

Installation and application

Insert the stripped conductor into the crimp section of the connector and crimp it using an appropriate crimping tool. Alternatively, solder or screw connections are available. Ensure that tab width and thickness are correctly matched.

Typical areas of application

  • Control cabinet and panel building
  • Machinery and vehicle construction
  • Electrical installation and maintenance
  • Building technology and appliance connection

Selection criteria

Select the appropriate flat plug based on conductor cross-section, tab width, and tab thickness to ensure reliable connections and compliance with relevant standards.

  • Conductor cross-section: according to cable size
  • Tab width: 2.8 mm, 4.8 mm, 6.3 mm
  • Tab thickness: 0.5 mm or 0.8 mm
