Cable gland for securing electrical systems and components.

The cable gland is used in all areas of industry and trade. It eliminates weak points resulting from cable ducts to enclosures such as control cabinets, junction boxes, distribution boxes, junction boxes, cooling and air conditioning systems. In the process, the cables are connected to the respective enclosure and the cable gland is sealed. In this way, cable glands protect electrical components from external influences such as manual impact, moisture, dust and other contaminants and provide strain relief for the cables.

Cable glands for numerous applications

In addition to basic protection functions, special cable glands also provide protection against extreme cold or heat, harmful UV rays, corrosion, vibrations and even explosions. There are also versions that take hygienic aspects into account, as required, for example, in the food industry, medicine and the chemical sector. A special gland with EMC insert ensures electromagnetic compatibility. Cable glands are therefore used in numerous areas such as machine and ship building, robotics, telecommunications and IT, catering, power engineering, multimedia, medicine, food industry, chemical industry and many more.

Thread types and IP protection classes

Three types of threads are used for cable glands: metric threads, steel conduit threads (PG) and national pipe threads (NPT). The most commonly used threads are the metric threads in sizes M 12 to M 63 with a pitch of 1.5. The external, bore and core hole diameters are specified for the metric threads. The IP protection classes according to EN 60529 specify the protection of enclosures of electrical equipment against external influences such as dust, liquids and mechanical impacts.

Gasket material and gland components

Cable glands are available in numerous materials such as plastic, stainless steel and brass. The plastic EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber) has proven itself many times over for sealing cable glands. The synthetic rubber is extremely weather-resistant, offers high UV protection and withstands extreme temperature fluctuations. Brass, nickel-plated, and polyamide as screw connection materials provide particularly high protection for electrical equipment. Polyamide as a thermoplastic material withstands high temperature fluctuations. Nickel-plated brass also offers a high level of corrosion protection and is therefore suitable for permanent outdoor use.

Accessories and supplements

In addition to the basic fittings, there are supplementary materials, tools for fastening and adapters such as the reducer. This is an adapter that provides an internal and external thread with metric or PG thread dimensions. The adapter allows the connection of different thread sizes. Furthermore, there are locknuts that reinforce the corresponding designs. They are either a basic component of glands or can be purchased as accessories. Bending and kink protection is recommended for the protective extension of cable entries. In addition, to supplement existing cable glands, there are choke nipples, locking nipples, lock nuts, special tools and much more.

Cable glands are used to protect control cabinets or enclosures from mechanical influences, dust or moisture by firmly connecting a cable to the enclosure.
