Cable strippers

Tools for stripping and stripping cables

Wire strippers and cable knives are two important tools in the electrical industry. Stripping pliers are used to remove the insulation from cables and wires, while cable knives are also used to strip the insulation from cables and wires, but then the cross-sections are significantly larger, from approx. 10 mm2.

Wire strippers

Wire strippers are used to strip the insulation from the sheath of electrical cables. Some models are specially designed for certain wire sizes or types, while others can be used universally.

To achieve optimum results and avoid injury, it is important both to follow the manufacturer's instructions and to select the right wire stripper for the job.

How wire strippers work

Wire strippers have two blades that close when the pliers head is squeezed. The blades cut through the outer insulation of the cable without damaging the wires underneath.

Depending on the model, wire strippers can have different settings for the size of the wire to be stripped. Make sure you use the correct setting to avoid damaging the cable.

Using a wire stripper makes stripping cables much easier and makes the process more precise and faster than stripping manually with a knife or other cutting tool.

Cable knife

A cable knife is a small, handy knife with a sharp blade. Some cable knives have a retractable blade. As with a cutter knife, the blade is safely stowed away when not in use and thus protects against injury

How cable knives work

The blade is pressed into the insulation of the cable and then guided along the cable to cut through the sheathing. Some cable knives have a notch or a special shape to make stripping easier by cutting into the insulation at a certain angle.

When using a cable knife, make sure that the cable knife is used correctly depending on the size and type of cable. Always work away from the body, otherwise slipping can lead to injury.
